And so it begins… the end of Kmart. Hometown photos, 11:35 a.m. Friday.

Demolition under way at the former Kmart at Hicks Drive and Turner McCall. Demo has started on the end closest to Turner McCall and Hicks Drive. On the exterior, it looks like most of the work so far is confined to that end, but as you drive by, you can see clear through the gutted building to the far end by the railroad tracks. A lot of debris containers are on the backside of the property where piles of rubble can be seen. Demo is also occurring simultaneously at the former Express station and outparcel building that formerly housed Little Caesars, Great Clips and Fastenal. Once cleared — including infrastructure — work will begin on East Bend, scheduled to bring 20 to 28 retailers and restaurants with an October 2020 targeted opening date.
