Drowned Valley Brewery gets closer in Cartersville. The progress being made at this new brewery at 4 S. Tennessee St. is a story unto itself. In fact, the crew behind Drowned Valley is offering weekly updates on their efforts to open. You can follow the progress by clicking here.  Some of the recent offerings:

  • July 28: There was a lot of digging and framing this week at the brewery. Our plumbers installed our new water lines as we focused on building the bathrooms.
  • July 22: This week we got our outdoor sign painted, inside plumbing finished, concrete poured, tanks and keg washer set, and moved an old barn door inside that we have some cool plans for.
  • July 14: This week was a busy week for the brewery. The floors in our brewing area were sloped, our trench drain was installed, and the plumbers started plumbing.
  • July 7: This week we got our keg washer delivered, the auger moving grain, and an artist to paint our mural on the front of our building.

Drowned Valley has a bit of Rome history to it. The first brewing system used by Rome City Brewing Co. — then in place at Brewhouse Music & Grill before Jay Shell and Dr. Trent Prault upsized to 333 Broad St. — is now owned by Drowned Valley.


Also on the way: Freight & Rail Brewing Co., coming to downtown Calhoun. We’ve found a video of construction but we’re awaiting confirmation before posting. Recently, the organizers were looking for a head brewer “responsible for all aspects of the production of all of the beers and the maintenance of the brewery. We will have both five-barrel and one-barrel brewing systems. We will focus on own-premise sales, retail sales from out of the brewery, with limited distribution to follow as production allows. We will produce lots of different styles with an ever changing line up of beers. Responsibilities include everything necessary to produce world-class beers in a small brewery environment. We’re looking for someone who is hard working, creative and passionate about beer. Our equipment is on order and we are excited to bring this dream alive. Come be a part of an exciting start-up, a fun place to work, and the constant challenge to create world-class beers.” From Reddit 


And more beer: Derrick Williams, who expanded Duke’s Wings & Seafood to 315 Broad St. in addition to the Calhoun location, is bringing Trackside Pizza & Pub to downtown Calhoun.

Also be looking out for Buffalo Luke’s, a newer concept from the folks behind Cheeseburger Bobby’s, at the Calhoun location closed earlier this year. Indeed.com has several positions advertised, including general manager.  It will be at at 273 Ga. 53.


Atlanta Eats is filming at Harvest Moon Cafe with the Georgia Lottery this Thursday between 1 and 5 p.m. Watch — and perhaps crash — as Atlanta Eats takes on the Moon. Broad Street, downtown Rome.
