Cartersville native Dr. Alan Barnes is opening Georgia Direct Family Care in Downtown Cartersville this August. He is bringing a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model of medicine to the practice at 135 W. Main Street offering same day appointments, home visits and direct access to your family physician.

According to their website, “DPC practices offer a full range of primary care services for a monthly or annual retainer fee paid directly to the practice. This model of care allows the two people most invested in your health –you and your doctor– to be in control of your primary health care. This plan results in significant savings: money, paperwork, and time. You are able to see the doctor you want, who will have the time to address your needs at a relaxed pace.”

Georgia DFC does not accept any insurance but instead offers monthly and yearly rates for ages 1 and up for primary care including preventative medicine and annual physicals, sick visits; management of diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol; routine lab tests; various in-house procedures such as skin biopsies, lacerations and EKG. House visits are even available for an additional charge. Click here to read complete list of services.

“Following residency, I started working at a local Urgent Care and Primary Care clinic in Cartersville.  In that role, I was able to achieve my goal of practicing medicine in my hometown and I loved being able to care for my community. But something was missing. I soon came to realize that there had to be a way for me to provide better care for my patients,” says Dr. Barnes.

“When I discovered the Direct Primary Care model, I knew it was how I always envisioned practicing family medicine. I believe in practicing medicine the ‘old fashioned way’. I want to connect with my patients, build relationships, and truly know their stories and their families. At Georgia Direct Family Care, I hope to give my patients the care and tools that they need to live happier, healthier lives.”

Barnes is a graduate of Cartersville High School and the University of Georgia. He completed a Family Practice residency at the Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine program in Rome.

Georgia DFC is now pre-enrolling patients and offering free consultations. For more, visit their website at
