Graham & Turner Grading Inc. of Cartersville has been granted demolition permits as work begins on the former Kmart campus — including the Express station — off Turner McCall and Hicks Drive as Ledbetter Properties prepares for East Bend. With 20 to 28 stores due by October 2020, Ledbetter Properties is facing a tight deadline.

The first demolition permits were issued Wednesday  by the Rome/Floyd County Office of Building Inspection sought by Graham & Turner on behalf of East Bend LLC (Ledbetter). While tank removal and other work is under way, the listed start date is July 15 with an ending date of Nov. 1. Work is scheduled for 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The “work methods” to be used: Heavy equipment … tear down, wet and load into 30-yard dumpsters.” Waste from the site is earmarked for the Walker Mountain Landfill.
