Mrs. Lois Evelyn McCary, age 90, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at her residence.
Mrs. McCary was born in Rome on August 12, 1928, daughter of the late David Norman McKinney and the late Velma Leona Payne McKinney. She graduated from North Charleston High School. She was a longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She worked for the Floyd County School System as a secretary at Coosa High School for over 17 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James “Jimmy” Darwin McCary, and her brothers, L.A. McKinney and Winston McKinney.
Mrs. McCary is survived by her husband, James Rufus McCary; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Cheryl McCary of Waynesboro; her grandchildren, Ben Ellison (Kristen) and Drew McCary (Kristina) all of Waynesboro; her 4 great grandchildren, West and Brinley Ellison and Hank and Luke McCary; her sister, WyDeene Webb (Roy); her special nieces and caregivers, Linda McKinney and Kimberly Blake; and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Levan officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the service time.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and include: Active: Ben Ellison, Drew McCary, Ken Blake, Dennis McCary, Jimmy Moon and Michael Mansour. Honorary: Austin McKinney, Stan Swinford, Randy McBurnett, Terry McAbee, Roger Duncan and Dennis Johnston.

Ryan Davis Godfrey, age 18, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, in Chattanooga, TN.
Ryan was born on August 24, 2000, in Calhoun, GA, son of Christopher Eugene Godfrey and Tracy Elizabeth Dupree. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County most of his life and was a member of Legacy Church. Ryan loved swimming, praising and worshiping the Lord and attending church service. He was also a big part of the special needs community.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Tracy Dupree; father, Chris Godfrey; sister, Kirstie Mangum; niece, Emma Mangum, nephews, AJ Reynolds and Parker Mangum. A number of cousins, other relatives, and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life for Ryan will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Rome, King Hall, with Dr. Terri Mayes, Pastor Chase Holsomback and Rev. Jeff Chadwick officiating.
Ryan’s family will receive friends in King Hall Friday from 3 until 5 p.m.

Mrs. Betty Jo Coker Battles, age 85 of Rome passed away July 9, 2019, in a local hospital following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mrs. Battles was born June 27, 1934, in Dalton, Ga. a daughter of the late, Morgan Coker and Bonnie Cowart Coker. She was member of West Rome Church of God of the Union Assembly. Mrs. Battles was employed for several years at Celanese Fibers, and later retiring from Hostess Bakery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Battles, brothers, Warren Coker, Bruce Coker, and a sister, Doris Lovain.
Survivors include her son, Mike Battles, Rome; grandchildren, Andrea (Charles) Battles de Young, Rome; Jeff (Kathryn) Battles, Falkville, Al; great granddaughters, Kirsten de Young & Nora Kate Battles, a niece, Carla Adams, several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday July 12, 2019 at West Rome Church of God of the Union Assembly, 2827 Alabama Hwy, Rome, Ga. 30165, with Rev. Lamont Kiser, Rev. Gene Marie, and Rev. James Adams, officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Thursday (today) at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, GA. 30165.
Mrs. Battles will lie in state at the church one hour prior in service, on Friday.

Mrs. Sara Ann Howard, age 88, of Rome passed away Monday July 8, 2019.
Mrs. Howard was born May 21, 1931, in Cedartown a daughter of the late James Everett Little, and Elizabeth Ann Smith Little. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lucion Howard, her siblings, Clifford Little, Mary Ferguson, Virginia Little, Hazel Miller, and Charlie Bell Harrison.
Survivors include, nephews, Cliff and Dee Little; Jimmy and Margaret Little; Bobby and Cindy Little; nieces, Amelia Little, Cynthia Little; great niece, Amber Hibberts; great and great great nieces and nephews. Dana, Abby, Jackson, Will, Ellamae, Charleston, Ari, Allison, Savannah, Tracy and Emily.
In accordance with Mrs. Howard wishes she be cremated and there will be no services.
