Mrs. Benita Faye McClure, age 58, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019, at a local hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. McClure was born November 3, 1960, in Rome, Georgia to the late George Thompson lll and Viola Thompson Gaines. She transitioned to be with the lord on July 7, 2019, after an extended illness.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband Robert McClure of 40 years; two sons, Eugene McClure (O’ Kemi), Rashard McClure; two grandchildren, Amaziah Ragland, Chole McClure; mother, Viloa Thompson Gaines; sister, Phyllis Mooring (Steve) Angela Thompson; three brothers George Thompson (Lillian), Micheal Thompson (Patricia), Phillip Thompson (Tawana) several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday, July 11, 2019, at noon at Mt Olive Baptist Church, 17 Pennington Ave. SW, Rome, Georgia. The Rev. Gordon Wells preceding.

Mrs. Delia Mae Smith Holcomb, age 88, of Silver Creek, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019, at a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Holcomb was born in Polk County, GA on December 14, 1930, daughter of the late Clarence Smith, Sr. and the late Mamie Clonts Smith.  She was a member of Wax Baptist Church and prior to her retirement, she was an employee of Celanese Fibers.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, George Alexander Holcomb, Jr., and by four brothers, Hugh, Merida, Paul, and Clarence Smith, Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hensley (Trammell), of Adairsville; a son, Robert Holcomb, of Rome; three grandchildren, Shea Byers (Todd), of Jasper, Leslie Hunt (Floyd), of Shannon, and Nathan Holcomb, of Rome; three great grandchildren, Ashley, Kaylea, and Jaclyn Henson; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 11am at the graveside in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.  The Rev. Alton Stamey will officiate.

The family may be contacted at each of their residences.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Brookdale of Rome, Pruitt Health and Rehab, and Pruitt Hospice for the care given to Mrs. Holcomb.

Mr. Larry Waymon Ingram, age 77, of Rome, GA, passed away on July 8, 2019 at a local hospital.

Larry was born in Robinwood, AL on August 17, 1941, son of the late Thelma Evers.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Panama City, FL.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama.  Larry served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Army in the 1st Calvary Division as a Combat Reporter.  He later earned his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Stetson University.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ingram, and by his brother, Donnie Ingram.

Larry and Sandy lived in Panama City for 45 years.  They relocated to Rome after Hurricane Michael to be closer to their family.  While in Panama City, Larry was co-pilot of the Pilot Club of Panama City.  He was an avid sailor and captain of San Julis.

Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra “Sandy” Jarrett Ingram; his daughters, Lisa Jordan (Bob) and Julie Gatanis (James Crader); his grandchildren, Robert Jordan, Katie Jordan, Allison Phillips and Emmie Phillips.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.  The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will be presenting military honors.  Inurnment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga., at a later date.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service time.

Mr. Dominic M. Szewczyk, age 20, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. Wright Memorial Mortuary.


Mrs. Sara Ann Howard, age 88, of Rome passed away Monday July 8, 2019.

Mrs. Howard was born May 21, 1931, in Cedartown a daughter of the late James Everett Little, and Elizabeth Ann Smith Little. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lucion Howard, her siblings, Clifford Little, Mary Ferguson, Virginia Little, Hazel Miller, and Charlie Bell Harrison.

Survivors include, nephews, Cliff and Dee Little; Jimmy and Margaret Little; Bobby and Cindy Little; nieces, Amelia Little, Cynthia Little; great niece, Amber Hibberts; great and great great nieces and nephews. Dana, Abby, Jackson, Will, Ellamae, Charleston, Ari, Allison, Savannah, Tracy and Emily.

In accordance with Mrs. Howard wishes she be cremated and there will be no services.

Cassandra Marie “Cassie” Rayburn, age 48, of Rome passed away Monday July 8, 2019 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Rayburn was born on August 8, 1970 in Gordon County. For over 20 years she managed Just Kids learning center, and also worked in nutrition at Coosa High School. She was preceded in death by her father: Frier David O’Berry Jr. and brother: Randy Dewayne O’Berry.

Survivors include her husband: Ted Marvin Rayburn, Jr.; son: Robert Jesse Rayburn, of Vinings, Ga.; daughters: Ashley (Joseph) Devine, of Calhoun, Trista (Blake) Lambert, of Rome, Kaetlin Rayburn, Brittany Rayburn, and Hannah Rayburn, all of Silver Creek; mother and step father: Sandra (Dwight) Pratt; grandchildren: Kylee Devine, Cooper Rayburn, Eleanor Rayburn, Noah Lambert, and Ely Lambert; niece: Lisa Marie O’Berry; nephew: Cody Dewayne O’Berry; aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday July 11, 2019 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Terpening officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday July 10, 2019, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen: Fred Cronon, Stan Reynolds, David Pearson, Joey Hazelwood, Michael Jones, Jason Fuller and Steven Reynolds.


Thomas Robert Bing, age 76, of Rome, Georgia. Also known to truck driver friends as Ricochet, Thomas went to be with the lord on July 8, 2019, after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and Dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Thomas was born on March 25, 1943 to the late Christopher Columbus (Lum) Bing and the late Hettie Mae (Mason) Bing. He was a truck driver until he retired in February 2016. Following his retirement, you could find him doing what he loved most, taking cares of his roses and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter: Nikki Marie Reid; grandson: Nicholas Allen Reid; brother: James Edward Bing; sister in law: Shirley Bing; sister: Mary Ruth Smith; brother in law: Daniel Smith; sister: Pluma Evelyn Itson; brother in law: J.W. Itson; and a special nephew Kenneth Brown.

Survivors include his wife Donna Riley Bing who he remarried on May 15, 2010; he would tell her that she was the love of his life, so they renewed their vows on June 2, 2019, and spent the day with friends and family.

Survivors also include 5 children: Richie Reid (Betty Kay) of Sandston, Virginia; Kevin Bing (Janie) of Cedar Bluff, Alabama; Robbie Bing (Nancy) of Valley Head, Alabama; Angel Warren (Randy) of Rome, Georgia; Nikki Phillips (Brandon) of Fort Payne, Alabama; 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, He has many nieces and nephews that all loved him. Thank you to all the family and friends who have helped and been there through this process we are forever grateful.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday July 13, 2019 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Rev. Jason Stockton, and Rev. Greg Cater officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Tracey Spriggs, Steve Eubanks, Christopher Hooper, Bobby Bing, Alex Bing and Justin Tucker. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
