Business: Kangaroo Jake’s closes in Armuchee after 11-year run.

For 11 years, Kangaroo Jake’s entertained kids and parents with inflatables, food and other indoor activities at Armuchee Village. Whether after school, a birthday or graduation celebration or just a day out with mom and dad, Gene Meyer and staff provided a safe, indoor refuge during hot summer months and the blustery winter days.

That all stopped this week as signs went up announced the end of the Kangaroo Jake’s run at the strip center off Martha Berry near Food Lion and CVS. A sign at the arcade door tells the news: “Kangaroo Jake’s is now closed.”

The Facebook page for the business is down while the website remains online. We called Tuesday night and got a recording asking callers to leave a message. We do have a Facebook message into Meyer for comment.

News of the closing spread quickly on Tuesday as a parent hoping to book a birthday party saw the closed message.

Kangaroo Jake’s debuted as larger, franchised operations were quickly spreading, from Monkey Joe’s to Stars & Strikes to the later rage, the indoor jumping spots including SkyZone and a few others. Several locals had tried similar ventures on an outparcel at the mall and later off Redmond Road.
