Heavy equipment is on the scene — but on the job — at the former Kmart store and Express location off Turner McCall and Hicks Drive. Hometown photo from Tuesday.

Watching and waiting: We went through 145 pages of building activity in Rome/Floyd County on Tuesday, in part looking for any demolition information about the former home of Kmart, the Express station and the small strip center that most recently was home to Little Caesars. Nothing popped up but as seen in the photo above, some heavy equipment is stationed at a few spots around the 20 acres that will soon give way to East Bend, a Ledbetter Properties’ power center scheduled to host 20 to 28 retailers and restaurants. The Ledbetters have said demolition is likely to start this month now that all the real estate duties have been completed. Look for stores to open by October 2020.
