SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SOUTHWESTERN FLOYD COUNTY UNTIL
915 PM EDT...

AT 847 PM EDT...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WAS NEAR COOSA, OR 9 MILES
NORTHEAST OF FORNEY...MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 10 MPH.

  HAZARD...UP TO 40 MPH WIND...FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING 
           AND HEAVY RAIN.

  IMPACT...EXPECT MINOR DAMAGE TO TREE LIMBS AND BLOWING AROUND OF 
           LIGHT...UNSECURED OBJECTS. HEAVY RAIN MAY CAUSE TEMPORARY 
           STREET FLOODING ESPECIALLY IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.

SOME LOCATIONS IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM INCLUDE
CAVE SPRING AND COOSA.

Another scorcher! The high so far Tuesday is 97 with a heat index of 105. Good news: At 8 p.m., it was down to 91 with a heat index of 98 degrees.

The tropics: A lot of eyes continue to assess whether a tropical depression will form off the Gulf Coast between Pensacola and Texas.

Heat wave: Monday’s high of 100 was up there but the record for July 8 was set in 1977: 104 degrees. The heat index maxed out at 102. The average for this time of year: a high of 90 and low of 70.

OUTLOOK

Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms can be expected. While the threat for severe thunderstorms remains low, any strong thunderstorm will be capable of producing heavy rainfall, brief gusty winds, and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

Wednesday through Monday… Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected each day with the highest thunderstorm coverage in the afternoon and evening hours. Strong to isolated severe storms will be possible, with gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and cloud to ground lightning the primary threats. The heavy rain could lead to localized flooding
