Decorated Floyd County sheriff’s corporal fired; office cites ‘unprofessional, negligent and incompetent in the performance of his duties.’

Floyd County Sheriff’s Office media release: Effective July 9, Cpl. Christopher Parton has been terminated from his employment with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for Conduct Unbecoming a Deputy. His termination stems from an arrest that occurred on June 3, in which Parton conducted himself in such a manner that was unprofessional, negligent and incompetent in the performance of his duties. Such behavior can not and will not be tolerated at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. We hold ourselves to a high standard and we strive to meet that standard at all times and in all situations.

The move comes less than a week after Parton was named to the sheriff’s new gang unit. Parton also was named the sheriff’s office’s Employee of the Quarter ending June 30, 2013.  “Chris is noted as being a tireless worker and is recognized for his exemplary contributions in performance, by constantly exceeding what is expected of him.  Chris is seen as dependable and will not hesitate to assist staff. His work habits are contagious as other employees are working harder and have exhibited more enthusiasm for their jobs as a direct result of working with Chris.”  Parton had been employed with the Sheriff’s Office since June 25, 2007, and also served as a member of the Sheriff’s Honor Guard.
