SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SOUTHERN GORDON AND NORTHEASTERN
BARTOW COUNTIES UNTIL 700 PM EDT...

AT 623 PM EDT...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WAS OVER FOLSOM, OR 11 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF CALHOUN. THIS STORM WAS NEARLY STATIONARY.

  HAZARD...40 TO 50 MPH WIND AND HEAVY RAIN.

  IMPACT...EXPECT MINOR DAMAGE TO TREE LIMBS AND BLOWING AROUND OF 
           LIGHT...UNSECURED OBJECTS. HEAVY RAIN MAY CAUSE TEMPORARY 
           STREET FLOODING ESPECIALLY IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.

SOME LOCATIONS IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM INCLUDE
ADAIRSVILLE, PINE LOG AND FOLSOM.

We’re not seeing any break from the extreme heat covering Northwest Georgia. High temperatures so far this week include:

Today (through 4:30 p.m.): High of 95; heat index of 103. Record high: 102 on July 5, 1954. In Cartersville so far today: High of 93 and heat index of 100.

Thursday: 97. Heat index topped out at 100. Record: 102 (temperature)

Wednesday: 95. Record high: 104.

Tuesday: 97. Heat index hit 100. Record high: 104.

Monday: 95. Record high: 103.

Normal high in early July: 89 degrees.

OUTLOOK

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. While severe storms are not expected at this time, a few strong storms are possible producing gusty winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rain.

Saturday through Thursday… Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected each day with most coverage through the afternoon and evening periods. Some strong storms are possible and isolated severe storms cannot be ruled out.
