An autopsy was set for Tuesday for Robert Lee Denis III, 29, who was found dead for a gunshot wound from an apparently handgun Monday morning in Cedartown, says Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier.
Denis was pronounced dead the scene at 11:10 a.m. Monday. Investigators found a handgun at the home at 624 E. Gibson St., adds Brazier.
The Cedartown Police Department with assistance from the GBI are investigating the death. An update is pending once the autopsy is complete.
Services will be announce by F.K. Jones Funeral Home of Rome.
From the city of Cedartown: “Officials are reporting that one individual is dead after a mid-morning shooting that took place on East Gibson Street in Cedartown. The shooting took place around 10:30 a.m. on July 1. Cedartown Police responded to the scene and have requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Specialist.
“The investigation is currently ongoing. Law enforcement are working to piece together the circumstances that resulted in the shooting and subsequent death of this individual,” said Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome. He also added that there is no suspect at large and there is no threat to the public. “All individuals present during the shooting incident are accounted for.”
The police are not releasing the victim’s identity at this time. Further details will be released as warranted.
Earlier: WGAA AM 1340 And FM 106.1 reports that Cedartown Police detectives and the GBI are on the scene following a shooting earlier Monday at a home on 624 E. Gibson St. According to reports, one victim is known at this time.
