July 2: Floyd County Republican Women meet Tuesday at Red Lobster, 700 Shorter Ave., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the program at noon. Guest speaker: Kirk Shook, executive director of Georgia Nonpublic Post-Secondary Education.

July 3. Blood donors needed for potential high-use holiday.  In preparation for the expected high usage of blood associated annually with the Independence Day holiday, O’Reilly Auto Parts is hosting a community-wide drive on Wednesday, July 3, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The local blood supply continues to be at urgent levels for many blood types, so the community’s help is greatly needed this year.  Donors can make an appointment online at www.bloodassurance.org/oreilly, by calling 800-962-0628, or by texting BAGIVE to 999777. Appointments are not necessary but do aide a donor who is short on time. Walk-ups are welcome too. All donors will receive a free pair of flip flops and donors 18 years and up will be entered to win four tickets to Dollywood’s Splash Country.

Independence Day: Blood Assurance seek donors on special day. Blood Assurance, Smoothie King, and ComForCare invite Rome and Floyd County to be a Holiday Hero this Independence Day and receive a free 20-ounce smoothie from Smoothie King. The Blood Assurance bloodmobile will be in the Smoothie King parking lot off Turner McCall Boulevard from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday. July 6: Men With a Purpose, set for 6 p.m. at Greater Bethlehem Temple Church, 401 Nixon Ave., Rome. We will celebrate diversity, acceptance, reason and logic for men; it will be an honor if you would come and share some of your valuable time. This invitation also is extended to other members of your churches. So please share and encourage them to attend and fellowship. Several men from the community will be honored during this event. Attire is casual.

July 13: Metropolitan’s United Methodist Men will host  their Annual Fish Fry on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. until sold out. This is always a great fellowship occasion and the meals really sell out quickly for a modest donation of $10 per plate.   The menu includes your choice of Whiting or Catfish, plus slaw, green beans or baked beans, bread, dessert and beverage.  You are cordially invited to join us for the food and fellowship.  Details: The church at 706 291-8660 or Allen Shropshire at 706 802-1659.
