There’s something about a thrift store and donation center that opens in Etowah Crossing shopping center just a few doors down from the Goodwill Store and Career Center off Hicks Drive.

Apparently a companion store to the WeCare Thrift Store and Donation Center in Calhoun, the Rome shop is open seven days a week. Hours: 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. The Rome store at 122 Hicks Drive opened April 2; the Calhoun store is at 514 S. Wall St.

The stores carry “a variety of everything” and also accept donated items. There is a 30 percent discount for those 55 and older on Tuesdays.

A website listing for the Calhoun location includes the following description:

“We are a community of vintage fashion lovers. We understand what it means to hunt down that unique signature item for your look. After years of bringing the perfect fashion items to our local community, we started this site to bring those same gems to you. We do the digging and unearth the best vintage pieces for our customers…Every year, tons of mass produced goods go into landfills. By joining the vintage and reused fashion movement, you help break that trend. Buying vintage lets you add classic, stylish, well-made items to your wardrobe. It keeps those items in use and removes you from the cycle of poorly-made, short-lived clothing. Join us in making ethical choices with style.”

Stat of the day: You don’t see dust settle at Rome City Brewing Co. at 333 Broad St. Whether in the first-floor brewery or the tap room above it, something is always happening.  Take  Monday, for instance: Jay Shell, Dr. Trent Prault and crew were at it as the “mobile” canning operation came to town, allowing RCBC to keep merchants and restaurants supplied with the Rome-brewed craft brew. This is what gets us: The number of cans of beer canned that day — 11,182. That’s nearly 1,900 six-packs of  Short Hot Blonde, Rome City Lux and Lemonade Stand brews.
