A violent few days in Northwest Georgia continued Sunday morning.
WGAA AM 1340 and 106.1 FM confirms a Polk County couple is hospitalized Sunday afternoon following an overnight shooting at their home. Initial reports say the couple was in bed when shot with a single blast, apparently from a shotgun.
Chief Kenny Dodd of the Polk County Police Department says the shootings occurred between 5 and 5:30 a.m. Sunday at the couple’s home. The attacker apparently fired from outside the bedroom door, he says.
What’s odd: “They drove to the store” to report the attack, even though they had cell phones, Dodd says. The couple was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment of what he called nonlife-threatening injuries.
The couple told investigators they didn’t know who attacked them or why they were shot at, Dodd says, adding, “It’s kind of a mystery.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 770-748-7331.
