Business: Find out why downtown Rome is really spicy these days at Gabee’s.

Downtown Rome has added a bit more spice.

Gabee’s Cambodian House Market has opened at 5 E. Fourth Ave. in the former home of Ransom Floral Co. (since merger with Bussey’s).

A first for our area? Open daily from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Gabee Dawson is “introducing Southeast Asian ingredients, spices, goods, snacks, drinks and cuisine with a modern twist in downtown Rome.” Depending on sales, Dawson says she considering extending evening hours.

What’s for sale? “Need something for your stir fry? Curry? Asian condiments? Sweet and salty snacks? Need a sweet fix? Maybe a drink or so to wet your tongue? Or even toilet paper?”

Classes, too: Based just off Broad Street, Dawson’s plans go beyond retail. “I will be hosting cooking class two evenings a week and, if you’re interested, book a session with me.” Her phone: 706-266-6630.

So if I want Golden Camel rice or ‘beef meat balls’? Find out more at the shop’s Facebook page.
