Rome meeting this morning to focus on parking

Downtown parking meeting this morning at 9 a.m. A group of downtown Rome merchants has been invited to a parking update at 9 this morning with City Manager Sammy Rich and Assistant City Manager Patrick Edison. The meeting follows the marathon May 20th City Commission caucus and meeting where commissioners voted 5-2 to expand free parking to three hours and rollback enforcement time to 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Commissioner Craig McDaniel introduced the proposal for the new hours and extension. A second reading is scheduled for June 10 barring a called meeting.  Rich did instruct city staff to enforce Monday’s vote effective immediately.

In light of the parking of the situation, there were no reported parking issues during any of the five high school graduations that took place last Saturday at The Forum River Center and Barron Stadium. Floyd County Schools reserved the Third Avenue Parking Deck for all four of their graduation events. Lenora Doss, Public Relations coordinator with FCS, says there were no issues with unauthorized vehicles parking in the deck that were not attending the graduation events.
