Education: Public hearing for Floyd School’s budget on Thursday. Expanded details on Pepperell Middle’s 8th grade classes moving to PHS. Rome High grad wins JSU Rome Area Scholarship.

The Floyd County Board of Education will have a Called Board meeting Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in the board room. This will be the first of two public hearings for the FY20 budget. They will also approve any personnel changes they may have at that time.


Floyd County Schools have distributed a letter to rising 8th graders and parents at Pepperell Middle School about the upcoming transition to Pepperell High School for the 2019-2020 school year while the new middle school is under construction. The above map shows that the downstairs C wing of PHS will be converted to an 8th Grade Academy.  There will be a separate arrival and dismissal times and locations with arrival at 7:45 a.m. and dismissal at 3:05 p.m. An 8th Grade Academy and additional school counselor will be named before the start of the school year. Click here to read entire letter.

Elizabeth Boyd, a graduating senior at Rome High School recently received the Jacksonville State University Greater Rome Area Alumni Chapter Scholarship. Elizabeth was selected for the $500.00 scholarship from a pool of over fifty area students who will be attending JSU for the first time in the fall.

She will be a member of The Marching Southerners and plans to pursue a degree in the sciences at JSU.  Elizabeth says, “Academically, I look forward to classes that will challenge and engage me.  Recently I was able to meet the Dean of the Science Department, and I was very excited to learn about all of the degrees and opportunities available in math and science at Jacksonville State University.”

The JSU Greater Rome Area Alumni Chapter encompasses Floyd, Polk, and Chattooga Counties.  With over 1,000 graduates living in the greater Rome area, they represent in a wide range of professions and occupations within our community.
