Governor to pick new Bartow/Gordon superior court judge from three nominees including District Attorney Rosemary Greene, Public Defender Christopher Paul and attorney Jeffrey Watkins.

The Judicial Nominating Commission has submitted recommendations to fill vacancies within the Superior Courts of the Cherokee Circuit which includes Bartow and Gordon counties. The vacancy was created by the passing of the Honorable George Carey Nelson III.  Gov. Brian Kemp will fill the vacancy from the recommendations provided.  The Governor’s Office will contact candidates to schedule interviews.

The following names were submitted to Kemp:

  • Rosemary M. Greene – District Attorney, Cherokee Judicial Circuit
  • Christopher G. Paul – Chief Circuit Public Defender, Cherokee Judicial Circuit
  • Jeffrey A. Watkins – founding shareholder, Jeffrey A. Watkins, P.C.

Judge Nelson died March 18. He was appointed to the superior court bench by then-Gov. Roy Barnes in 2001 and served until his death. Judge Nelson
