Obituaries: Mrs. Doris Marie Shelley Carney, Mrs. Ella Mae Zachery-Carson, Mrs. Sarah Joyce Elliott Gann, Thomas Kenneth Lee Waggoner.

 

Mrs. Sarah Joyce Elliott Gann, age 87, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Gann was born in Aragon, Georgia on November 27, 1931, daughter of the late William H. Elliott and the late Etta Jones Elliott.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Edward Gann, in 2007, by a daughter, Patricia Gann McNitt, in 2012, and by a sister, Betty Jane Elliott, in 2016.  Mrs. Gann was a member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church.  Prior to retirement, she worked as the Office Manager at Morgan & Hunt Oil Company for 45 years.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Roger McNitt, Rome; two granddaughters, Melissa McNitt, Rome, and Kristin McNitt, Texas; one great granddaughter, Mackenzie McNitt, Rome.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at 12 noon at Second Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Millie Kim officiating.  Private interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Second Avenue United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 11am until the service time.

Mrs. Doris Marie Shelley Carney, age 92, of Orlando, FL, formerly of Rome, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019, at her residence.

Mrs. Carney was born in Floyd County, GA on October 3, 1926, daughter of the late Simon Richard Shelley and the late Maude Ann Rogers Shelley.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, U. S. Army (Ret) Sgt. 1st Class, Emmett Carney, by a son, Robert Emmett Carney, by her twin sister, Dorothy Mae Shelley Weathington, and by a brother, William “Bobby” Shelley.  Mrs. Carney was a homemaker and Army wife.  She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Ann Carney West (Floyd), Orlando, FL, and Mary Carney Nico, Kennewick, WA; a son, Richard “Rick” Carney (Billie Jo), Orlando, FL; her daughter-in-law, Debra Carney, Merritt Island, FL; 2 sisters, Shirley Nelson, Marietta, GA, and Joyce Parker, Rome, GA; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.  Interment will follow in Wax Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday from 5 until 7 p.m.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble  at 1:30 p.m. and include:  James Meade, James Weathington, Larry Weathington, Justin LeSene, Harry Nelson, Randy Parker, and Lonnie Nelson.


Mrs. Ella Mae Zachery-Carson, 82, of Rome, Georgia, passed away, Sunday, May 5, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  Services are incomplete and will be announced at a later date. Wright Memorial Mortuary.


Thomas Kenneth Lee Waggoner was born on July 29, 1979 and passed away on May 3, 2019. Daniel’s Funeral Home.
