The big makeover at the Murphy USA station at the East Rome Walmart continues. The popular gas station with a small store selling drinks, candy and lottery tickets closed barely two weeks ago. Already, the gas station is rubble with a replacement expected to be open by late summer. The change comes as the gas business gets more competitive in Rome and Cartersville with a slew of RaceTrac stores now open or on the way. In East Rome: The nearby Walmart off U.S. 411 and Callier Springs Road also is undergoing a $1.5 million makeover with expanded services on the way (grocery pickup, etc.) The Murphy and Walmart projects are separate from one another.
