BASEBALL

Rome Braves-Lakewood rained out Sunday; play two this afternoon. Media release:  Heavy rain forced a postponement of the Sunday afternoon matchup between the Rome Braves and Lakewood BlueClaws, bringing about Rome’s first doubleheader of the 2019 season.

 

The two teams will now play a pair of 7 inning games on Monday beginning at 4:35 p.m. from FirstEnergy Park. Game 2 will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 1.

Rome will start RHP Trey Riley (0-4, 6.35) in Game 1 while Lakewood will send LHP Manuel Silva (0-0, 0.00) to the mound. In Game 2 the Braves will start RHP Odalvi Javier (0-1, 5.59). Lakewood has not announced their second starting pitcher for the doubleheader.

Monday’s doubleheader against Lakewood will mark the end of Rome’s long road trip. The Braves currently are riding a three-game winning streak.

Next:  Off Tuesday. At home vs. Greenville, Wednesday-Friday.

Georgia High School Association State Tennis Tournament: Boys Class 2A: Rockmart will host Early County on Monday for the Class 2A State Championship, 1 p.m.


COMMUNITY

The Exchange Club will hold its annual Jim Bishop Memorial Tee Off Against Child Abuse Golf Tournament on May 10 at Stonebridge Golf Club.  The event is sponsored by Heritage Auto Group and Guild Mortgage/Blaine Kirby. All proceeds benefit the Family Resource Center and its child abuse prevention programs. The event, named in memory of Jim Bishop, is a four-man scramble and event registration includes breakfast from The Sweet Bar and lunch courtesy of Chick-fil-A.“We still have a few team slots available for this event, which is now in its seventh year.  Stonebridge is a beautiful course and the day offers a great day of networking among teams and a fun way to support child abuse prevention efforts,” says Tina Bartleson, Executive Director.  Registration deadline is May 7 and forms can be downloaded at www.exchangeclubfrc.org or by calling Bartleson at 706-290-0764.


FOOTBALL
