‘Blue Mondays,’ other events continue as Northwest Georgia observes Child Abuse Prevention Month.

This photo, courtesy of Floyd County CASA, is from Monday’s annual Placement of the Pinwheels at the Dempsey Lord Smith  Building (Turner McCall Boulevard and Broad Street).  This year, 91 pinwheels are out, each pinwheel represents one confirmed case of abuse/neglect in a Floyd County family last year.

Blue Mondays and “Believe in the Blue”–Each Monday in April
Wear blue each Monday in April & let Rome/Floyd County know that you believe that by working together, we can prevent child abuse! Wear blue, take a selfie, and email to tina@exchangeclubfrc.org or share it to the Exchange Club Family Resource Center Facebook page

Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Art Project–Submission deadline of April 24.
Harbor House invites local elementary schools to participate in an art project to raise awareness and voice the significance of the issue of child abuse and neglect in our community. A canvas will be provided and finished art is due to Harbor House on April 24th. Artwork will be recognized on the Harbor House Facebook page and local community agencies may later choose a canvas to showpiece at their offices. Call 706-235-5437 for information.
Exchange Club of Rome—Presentation on April 26 at noon
Come learn more about how the Exchange Club of Rome is serving families and preventing child abuse. The 2019 “Katie Dempsey Star Award” will be presented to an outstanding volunteer. Seating is limited and a reservation is required (call Tina at 706-290-0764).
Clowning Around with PolkeyDot
Floyd County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) will “clown around” with area daycares to talk about safety, plant pinwheels, and have fun! The CASA Clown is available by appointment only by calling Sue Lagerman at 706-235-2272.
Integrative Restoration Meditation (iRest)—throughout the month
Meditation can help reduce stress and anxiety and is a great way to take care of yourself. The Healing Arts Center of Rome in cooperation with Breathe Yoga Therapy are offering this guided meditation FOR FREE on Mondays at 6:45PM, Tuesdays at 10AM, and Thursdays at 8:30 AM. “Talk of the Town with Nelle Reagan” on WRGA 98.7 FM on April 22 at 12:30 p.m. to talk about our area’s child abuse prevention and learn how you can help reduce risk to children.
Lunch & Learn series at the YMCA: Stop by the YMCA for a lunch and learn series on April 22 and 29 at noon. Exchange Club Family Resource Center staff will lead topics on ABCs of Safe Sleep, parenting styles, parenting “POWER”, and problem-solving. Please RSVP by calling the YMCA at 706-232-2468.
