Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation will host a free Major League Baseball Jr. Home Run Derby Competition for area youth on Wednesday, April 17, beginning at 6 p.m. at Alto Park Fields. This competition is a free way for talented youngsters to showcase their hitting abilities, with the opportunity of competing at the National Finals during the MLB All-Star Week.
Boys and girls are divided into two age divisions: 12U and 14U, and will have the chance to advance through three levels of competition. The Local Champions from both age divisions will advance to the Regional Level, and Regional Champions will advance to the National Finals, which will take place during the 2019 MLB ® All-Star Week™.
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. April 27: Rome High School hosts the Wolf Nation 5K and 1 Mile Race. Last year, 260 runners took part. This year, the 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. and the 1-Mile race at 8:15 a.m. Proceeds from this race will benefit the Rome Cross Country Team and will help to build our running programs. The school with the highest number of participants will receive $300 as an incentive to promote or start a running program at that school. Registration is due at the RHS main office by Friday, April 19, at 3:30 p.m. All team participants are asked to submit waivers and payments to the front office or register online.
