Mr. B. R. Perry, age 92, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at his home.

Mr. Perry was born in Etowah, Tennessee on September 5, 1926, son of the late W. B. “Bill” Perry and the late Mary Deathridge Perry.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Amelia “Midge” Perry; by a son, Lynn Perry, by a grandson, Shannon Perry, and by a sister, Thursie Waddell.

Mr. Perry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and was much loved by all.   He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II on the USS English DD696 as a Fireman 1st Class and on the USS Compton.  He earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two stars, and the Philippine Campaign Ribbon.  Mr. Perry was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.  He was also a member of the Coosa Lodge #622 F&AM.  Prior to retirement, Mr. Perry worked as a Conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Perry (Sherry), Rome; a daughter, Diane Justice (David), Rome; four grandchildren, Heath Perry, Denise Willingham, Latitia Bonds and Brandi Carmichael; 9 great grandchildren; four siblings, Eddie Perry, Kathy Bowlin, Kenny Perry and Wanda Beliz; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Heath Perry and Dr. Jerry Dudley officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Wednesday from 1 until 2:45 p.m.

Flobell Robinson Driver, 96, of Memphis, TH and formerly of Atlanta and Rome, went to be with the Lord March 7, 2019.

A native of Gordon County, Mrs. Driver was born June 9, 1922, daughter of Marvin Leonard Robinson and Mary Emma Anderson Robinson. She was a resident of Rome and the Celanese community as a young adult and later moved to Atlanta where she was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital and Sears-Roebuck. She was an active member of Faith Memorial Assembly of God in Atlanta where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.

Later she moved back to Rome to care for her aging parents and attended North Rome Church of God. After retirement, Flobell did volunteer work and phone counseling. She was a loving mother and adored her daughter. Flobell was a wonderful Christian who was kind and generous to her family and others. She was always praying for them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles Marvin Robinson, Joseph Loyd Robinson and Naman Carroll Robinson; her sisters Blanche Robinson Sims and Inez Verlin Robinson Hulsey Gilmore; and the father of her child John Morrell Driver.

Survivors include her daughter Susan Mavourneen Driver Green of Memphis, TN; brother Velton Leonard Robinson of Lilburn; sister Margaret Elizabeth Robinson Moschak of Augusta, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at Monday, March 11, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terry Addis officiating. Interment was in the Gaines Cemetery in the Sonoraville community near Calhoun .

Sherry Staney Nix was born on April 16, 1956 in Rome, GA and passed away on March 9, 2019. Daniel’s Funeral Home.

Betty Jo (Terry) Barton, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at her home in Rome, Georgia. Betty Jo was born December 30, 1956 in Adairsville, Georgia, to Edna Mae (Brazier) and James Paul Terry.

Betty Jo is survived by her partner, Johns Culpeper; sons Jesse Lee Barton and Douglas Joseph Barton; brothers Ellis Arnold Terry, his wife Ann and Joel Jackson Terry, his wife Debbie Morris; sister Faye An Castleberry, her husband Freddie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, brother Henry Martin Terry, and sisters Mary Ann (Terry) Reeves and Ida Mae (Spivey) Crawford Cook.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 801 East Second Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30161.

Henry L “Butch” White, age 76, of Rome passed away Sunday March 10 in a local nursing home.

Mr. White was born in Rome on March 18 1942, the son of the late Paul H. and Annie L. White. Mr White was a graduate of West Rome High School where he was an outstanding athlete earning all state honors in both football and baseball. He received a scholarship to Carson Newman College where he played both football and baseball. After college he served 4 years in the US Air Force.

He was employed by Wheeler’s Building Materials for over 37 years where he was a longtime manager of the Calhoun store and then for the last 15 years he served as Director of Purchasing. He was a member of West Rome Baptist Church and the Oostanala Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara A. White; a son Henry Hill White; a granddaughter Alyssa White of Birmingham AL; a brother Wayne White (June); a brother-in-law Don Ash (Jana); a sister-in-law Jane Downing (Raymond); and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday March 13 at 3 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with the Rev. Orace Stewart officiating and Oostanalua Masonic Lodge # 113 F&AM will conduct Masonic Rites. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Manis, Jim Manis, Scott Ponder and Scott Freer. The family will receive friends Wednesday March 13, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home from 2 to 3 p.m.

Ms. Sheila Williams, age 66 of Rome, Ga., passed on Monday, March 11, 2019. Service details are incomplete. F. K. Jones Funeral Home.
