Scouts moving from Second Avenue to Fifth Avenue effective April 1. Also: Scouts’ American Values Luncheon is April 5.

The Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts is moving to 1013 N. Fifth Ave., Suite 1, as of April 1. From Facebook: “This is a great opportunity to have a stand alone building in a high traffic area with ample parking with a more functional, customer friendly floor plan that our volunteers will be proud of. Contractors are working hard to prepare your service center for the move. Moving in can begin next weekend so any volunteers who would like to assist in moving smaller items please contact the Service Center at 706-235-5545.”

The Scouts currently are based at 100 E. Second Ave. between Owen’s Hardware & Sporting Goods and the SunTrust building.

New York Times best-selling author Alvin Townley is the keynote speaker at the Boy Scouts of America’s American Values Luncheon on April 5 at noon at Coosa Country Club. Dr. Bob Hortman and Dr. Clem Slack will be honored for the community service.

An Atlanta native, Townley has discussed leadership with Michael Bloomberg, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer,  Apollo 13‘s Jim Lovell and others. An Eagle Scout, NCAA athlete and graduate of Washington & Lee University, he serves as The Home Depot Director of Corporate Philanthropy and Veterans Programs at Atlanta’s Woodruff Arts Center.
