A 2018 graduate of Pepperell High School is among a group of Samford University School of the Arts students headed to Iasi, Romania, on a 13-day mission with a single goal: “Influence the community and freedom in the arts.” They call themselves We Are Art and have a very active Facebook page that has chronicled their efforts to head overseas, including vital fundraising.
Among them is Baleigh Nelson, who is listed as “Assistant Stage Manager- that is her title/responsibility for the production that the children in Romania will perform,” says her mother, Lisa. “She will be acting in the lead role of the show that the Samford students will perform.” They are working with the Wurmbrand School, one of a handful of Christian schools in the country. The play is an original work, by the way. (Please see Baleigh’s profile below)
Here’s what the students say about themselves and their travels:
“We are a group of Samford School of the Arts students being led on this opportunity to spread the magic and freedom of the arts through theatre by Technical Theatre major, Xanthia McCaul. This trip will serve as Xanthia’s senior capstone. Our mission: deliver not only a wonderful theatrical experience to the high schoolers of Iasi, Romania, but to also open new doors for the school and the community to explore the freedom that lies within the arts.”
