For local country fans, it is a dream team. Country superstar Blake Shelton was the only judge to spin his chair as Dalton Dover performed his blind audition. And that’s all that was needed on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Tuesday night. Dover, a former Rockmart High student, will now move deeper into the season, coaching by Shelton, easily the most successful judge on NBC’s hit show.
Dalton sang “Don’t Close Your Eyes” by Keith Whitley for his audition, a song that’s special to Shelton a well. Dalton taped the show earlier and was at Rome City Brewing Co. Tuesday night to help host a watch party in the Tap Room above the brewery at 333 Broad St. Dover has been a familiar face — and voice — at the Tap Room and across Northwest Georgia. He auditioned for season 16 of “The Voice” over the summer.
Social media quickly filled with congratulatory notes to the young singer. His response: “I’m so overwhelmed by the love and support that everybody is showing! I wanna thank you all from the bottom of my ❤️.. ”
“The Voice” features four judges — Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Adam Levine and Shelton — and, in the blind audition phase, they turn their chairs around and agree to coach the performer. Should more than one judge make the spin, the performer picks his or her favor judge. In Dover’s case, it didn’t matter — you knew it was a match for Shelton from day one.
Next week’s shows air at 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Keep an eye on #teamblake
