OUTLOOK

There is a risk of strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the area Sunday afternoon and evening as a cold front enters the region. Possible hazards include flash flooding, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. We could see up to 1.5 inches of new rainfall through Monday. We will have continuing updates all weekend.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Scattered showers will be likely across the area Sunday morning followed by a line of showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening. This line of showers and thunderstorms will have the potential to bring damaging wind gusts, isolated to scattered tornadoes, and periods of heavy rain to the area.

Given the recent above average rainfall in the area, the chances of downed trees and power lines are more likely and the possibility of seeing some creeks/rivers rise to bank-full or flood levels is increased. Please keep an eye on the weather and watch for high water to continue or return in the low lying areas.

Here is a current report on road conditions in Floyd County (as of 4 p.m. Saturday):

Still closed: Old River Road and Thomas Bluff Road

Now open: Collier Road
