Politics: Floyd County Democratic Party meets Thursday at Holiday Inn Express. Voting under way in special election in Fairmount; election is March 19.
The Floyd County Democratic Party will hold its annual membership party on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express off U.S. 411. Entrance is $10. New and renewing members can also pay their $10 annual dues at the event.
The party’s keynote speaker will be former Columbus mayor, Teresa Tomlinson. After a successful two terms as mayor, Tomlinson continues to be active in state Democratic politics. She continues to push to elect Democrats locally and statewide, pointing out the importance of grassroots activism.

From Gordon County elections Chair Shea Hicks: The City of Fairmount will have a Special Election on March 19 to fill the unexpired term of Linda Sledge Johnson. Early Voting began continues through March 15. To cast your ballot early, you will go to the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office located in the Gordon County Government Plaza, at 215 N Wall Street, Calhoun; office hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Absentee ballots by mail are available, if you would like to request an absentee ballot please call the Gordon County Board of Elections Office at 706-629-7781 or the City of Fairmount at 706-337-5306.
Election Day will be on Tuesday, March 19, at the Fairmount Community Center, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
