Flu claims ninth victim in Georgia since late September: An adult in the age 18-to-49 age group is the latest person to die from the flu in Georgia since the current season began in late September. The weekly summary (through Feb. 2) from the Georgia Department of Health now shows eight adults and one youth (ages 5 through 17) have died from the flu. Six of those deaths have occurred in people 65 and older.

There were 35 additional hospitalizations for the flu in metro Atlanta through Feb. 2, bringing the annual total to 947. Three flu outbreaks were reported in Georgia for that week, boosting the annual total to 36.

Georgia continues to be considered among the “widespread” states in terms of flu outbreack.
