The Floyd County Commission has a called meeting at noon Thursday to discuss the following:

NEW BUSINESS: Approve the third addendum of the contract between Floyd County and the Atlanta Braves Baseball Club.

We’re seeking additional clarity but assume this will center on ongoing talks to extend the Rome Braves’ tenure at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves and the county have been negotiating the Rome Braves‘ continuing contract here as spelled out in the original agreement that brought the team to State Mutual Stadium in 2003. The Braves have deferred comment until after Thursday afternoon’s meeting.

In December, Hometown Headlines talked with Jim Bishop, the general manager of the Rome Braves, about what’s ahead this year.

The Rome Braves return for their 17th season in Rome this April with the first home game on April 11. The county will be funding approximately $500,000 in improvements to State Mutual Stadium later this year with matching funds from the Atlanta Braves’ organization. Braves General Manager Jim Bishop says they don’t yet have a timetable for the projects that will include a new scoreboard, new sound system and improved security among other items.
