Buzz: Feb. 11 blood drive offers a few extra incentives for county employees, other donors. Floyd County Republican Women meet Tuesday. Final days to vote early in Gordon County House race.

Upcoming blood drive has something extra for Floyd County employees: Sure, the incentive is there — free refreshments (snacks) for all donors courtesy of The Sweet Bar. But for county employees, there’s another perk — a free police escort to the Law Enforcement Center if they donate blood on Monday, Feb. 11, between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. There are additional perks as well. Anyone can sign up to give by texting BAGIVE to 444999 to schedule your appointment or go online.

The Floyd County Republican Women meet Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Red Lobster on Shorter Avenue. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at noon. The guest this month: Lauren Spivak, author and speaker.

Early voting for the Feb. 5 Special Election Runoff ends Friday. The candidates for House District 5 are Matt Barton and Jesse Vaughn, both Republicans. To cast your vote early, you will go to the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office in the Gordon Count Government Plaza at 215 N. Wall St., Calhoun; office hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. If you are registered to vote in the following precincts you will be eligible to vote in this special election:

1055 Plainville, 1064 Oostanaula, 1054 Sugar Valley, 980 Resaca, 1063 Pine Chapel, 849-A County/Belmont, 849-B City of Calhoun, 856 Lily Pond, 973 Red Bud (this precinct is split some voters will not be eligible to vote in this special election, only if you reside in House District 5). 1056 Sonoraville (this precinct is split some voters will not be eligible to vote in this special election, only if you reside in House District 5)
