Another 28 people were hospitalized with flu symptoms during Jan. 13-19 in Georgia, boosting the total since late September to 814. Another two flu outbreaks were reported that week. The overall activity level is ‘high’ and ‘regional’. The seasonal death toll is now at seven fatalities. Last season, 151 people died from the flu in Georgia.
State Department of Health reports show nearly two thirds of the 52,387 “influenza-like illnesses” reported through Jan. 19 have been with those ages newborn to 17. In the week ending Jan. 19, there was an overall decrease in cases for all ages to 2,877 from 3,134 for the week prior ending Jan. 12.
Five of the seven flu deaths this season have been those 65 and older. Another was someone between the ages of 5 and 17 and the seventh was a patient from age 50 through 64.
