Obituaries: Mrs. Jean King Copeland, Mrs. Rosa Nelly Rivas-DeRuano, Mr. William Edward “Eddie” Scott Sr. and Elder Vivian Wilkins

Mrs. Rosa Nelly Rivas-DeRuano, age 51, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, GA.

Mrs. Rivas-DeRuano was born in Guatemala on March 12, 1967, daughter of Victoria Balcarcel Lima and Roberto Rivas.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Samantha Ruano.  She graduated top of her class at ENRO.  She attended a ceremony at the Federal Palace in Guatemala to meet the President and was granted the opportunity to serve as a teacher.

Nelly worked for countless families in California and then in Rome as a Nanny, house manager, house keeper and caregiver for the elderly.  She will always be remembered by every person she touched, young and old.  She has always been an example of Christ’s sacrificial love.

As a Nanny, she cared for the children as her own. She would cuddle, read, play, and sing with them. She saw each accomplishment and helped them grow and learn.  She was intentional in helping them understand her language.  She was always there for every child and family to comfort and kiss away the tears.  She was their greatest cheerleader and prayer warrior, and her sense of humor was loved by all.  Nelly was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome.

Survivors include her husband, Juan Antonio Ruano; a daughter, Jasmine Bridgette Ruano; two sons, Donald Anthony Ruano (Syomara) and Kerveen Bradley Ruano; her parents; two grandchildren, Damaris Anahi Ruano and David Anthony Ruano; her siblings, Alba Teresa Rivas De Ordonez, Eddy Romilio Rivas Barcarcel, Elvia Corina Rivas De Obando, Marvin Ronaldo Rivas Barcarcel, and Magdalena Rivas De Merlos; nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Rafael Carballo, assisted by Deacon Stuart Neslin, will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  The Mass will be celebrated in Spanish.  Following the Funeral Mass, Mrs. Rivas-DeRuano will be cremated in accordance with her wishes.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Sunday, January 27, 2019, from 2 until 4 p.m.

Mr. William Edward “Eddie” Scott Sr., age 68, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Scott was born in Walker County, Ga., on January 25, 1950, son of the late Willie Elston Scott and the late Velma Fain Gresham Scott.  He was a graduate of Berry Academy in the class of 1968.  He was a member of various local car clubs and was a painting contractor.  He attended Oak Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Sue Atkinson Scott; 2 sons, Wes Scott Jr. (Tanya), Dalton, and Lee Scott (Vanessa), Cape Coral, FL; 7 grandchildren, Wes Scott, III, Beth Scott, Summer Scott, Sara Scott, Isabella Scott, Matthew Scott, and Nathan Scott; 4 great-grandchildren, Parker Scott, Kennedy Scott, Anderson Scott and Aiden Rice; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.  Elder Michael Farris and Elder Steve Murdock will officiate.  Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Sunday from noon until time for the service.  At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.

Pallbearers serving are asked to assemble Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and include: Wes Scott, III, Rob Byars, George Mostiller, Shaine Atkinson, Jameson Atkinson and Benji Ross.

Mrs. Jean King Copeland, age 77, of Rome passed away January 23, 2019 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Copeland was born September 24, 1941, in Walker County, Alabama, a daughter of the late Cecil William King and Lura Gertrude Deason. Mrs. Copeland was retired from Northwest Georgia Credit Union as head teller for over 20 years. She was an amazing woman, loved her family and her dog Sadie. Mrs. Copeland loved the Atlanta and Rome Braves, and going to Flea Markets.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Copeland, daughter and son in law, Susanne and Bil Clanton, Rome; grandchildren, Gage Clanton, brother, Cecil “Bo” (Jane) Clanton Crane Hill, Al; sisters, Sarah (JR) Sides, Carbon Hill, Al; Della (Johnny) Martin, Dora, Al; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday January 26, 2019 in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Derek Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. on Saturday January 26, 2019 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome GA. 30165.

Elder Vivian Wilkins, age 76 of Cartersville, GA passed on Friday, January 25, 2019. Homegoing Celebration will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 12 Noon at House of Liberty. Interment will follow at Oakhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 6 – 8 pm at House of Liberty.
