Calhoun officer injured following accident as he chased a suspect; second CPD officer injured in the line of duty since Dec. 11.

Media release: Calhoun Police were involved in an early morning chase that began on North Wall Street and came to an end on I-75 after the officer involved crashed his patrol car while attempting to stop the suspect vehicle.

The chase started around 12:04 a.m. after an officer noticing the suspect vehicle driving without headlights. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle at which point the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The entire pursuit was captured on video and supervisors are currently reviewing the disk in an effort to identify the vehicle/suspect involved.

The officer received minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Background: This is the second officer injured in the line of duty in a little over a month. On Dec. 11, Officer Joe Yother was shot outside the BP station on Wall Street  in Calhoun as officers attempted to talk to two people in a vehicle. The suspect in the case died after being shot by officers. A GBI investigation continues.
