Women: Vikings 50-46 over Centre. The Berry College women’s basketball team claimed its first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win of the year on Sunday afternoon, besting the Centre College Colonels 50-46 to improve to 5-11 overall. Berry is now 1-4 in SAA play. The loss dropped Centre to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Vikings put three players in double-figures including Jana Morning, Alex Weems and Eveline Parsons.
Men: A really big W for Berry, 77-68. The Berry College men’s basketball team drained 14 three-pointers in the team’s first ever regular-season victory over the Centre College Colonels on Sunday afternoon, claiming first place in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) with a 77-68 final score. The Vikings improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the SAA, already matching the team’s win total from last season. Centre falls to 13-3 overall and are also 4-1 in league play.

Three Rivers Throwdown returns to Unity Christian School on Jan. 26: The seventh annual edition, put together by CrossFit UCS, is a fundraiser for the school/athletics program at Unity Christian School. It draws from 40 to 50 teams (four members each) from across the Southeast, competing in the school’s gymnasium.The entry fee is $360 a team and it lasts from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. There is no admission fee but donations are welcome. Competing will be CrossFit Chariot and CrossFit Rome as well as potential teams from Cartersville, Calhoun and perhaps as far away as Charleston, S.C.
