Weekend: Tellus celebrates 10 years, almost 2 million guests on Saturday. Open house this morning at new recycling center.

Tellus Science Museum celebrates 10 years and nearly two million guests on Saturday: On tap: Science games, face painting and balloon animals for kids as well as cupcakes. Everyone gets to sign a giant birthday card and, if you feel creative, make your own birthday card for Tellus. You’ll want to be in front of the Apatosaurus in the Great Hall at 1 p.m. to sing “Happy Birthday” and see the confetti cannon. Today’s schedule: the celebration is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (museum closes at 5 p.m.) The solar observatory will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p .m. Free for members; regular price for nonmembers. Floyd County’s new recycling center has an open house today at 412 Lavender Drive, from 9-11 a.m.  A bit of trivia about the new center: “Stop in for tours of our new center that can process a week’s worth of material at the old center in only four hours!”
