Obituaries: Ms. Juanitha Carolyn Bowman, Ms. Glennis Johnson, Mr. William Robert “Skeet” Rickman, Mr. Jodie Alexander Rowell Jr.

Mr. William Robert “Skeet” Rickman, age 79, of Rome, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Rickman was born in Floyd County, GA on July 7, 1939, to the late Joseph William Rickman, Jr. and the late Sarah Madelyn Roberts Rickman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Sylvia Marie Harrelson, and by a brother, Charlie Rickman.  Mr. Rickman attended Armuchee High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was a retired Correctional Officer with the Floyd County Prison and also worked security for the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium.  He was a member of Oostanaula Lodge #113 F. & A. M. and was a member of Floyd Springs United Methodist Church.  In addition to his love of the Braves, Mr. Rickman was a faithful fan to his beloved Georgia Bulldogs.

Mr. Rickman is survived by two step-sons, Gene Scoggins (Vickie), Rome, and Waymon Scoggins (Billie), Spartanburg, SC; four sisters, Jenneal Minshew (Johnny), Rome, Glenda Shuler (Eddie), Rome, Cindy Corbin, Rome, and Frankie Studdard (Glenn), Rome; two brother, Tommy Rickman (Debbie), Rome, and Billy Rickman (Nelda), Rome; two daughters, Leshawn Rickman, and Angela Rhinehart; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service for Mr. Rickman will held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Hopper officiating.  The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will present military rites and the Oostanaula Lodge #113 F. & A. M. will preside over Masonic rites.  In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Rickman will be cremated following the service.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Thursday from 2 until 3:45 p.m.


Ms. Glennis Johnson, 87, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019. Services for Ms. Johnson are incomplete and will be announced at a later date. Wright Memorial Mortuary.


Mr. Jodie Alexander Rowell Jr., age 72 of Rome, died Tuesday morning following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Rowell was born June 28, 1946 in Cedartown, GA son of the late Jodie Alexander Rowell, Sr. and Catherine Johnson Rowell. Before his retirement Mr. Rowell had been employed with General Electric Co. with over 33 years of service.  He was also a member of North Rome Church of God; the A.S.A. Umpire’s Association, umpiring numerous National Tournaments, the Georgia High School Baseball & Softball Association and was inducted into the A.S.A. Hall of Fame in 1996. Mr. Rowell was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War era.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Monroe Johnson in 2011.

Survivors include: two sons, Craig Rowell (Margie Hannah) and Mark Rowell, both of Rome; adopted son, Russell Headrick (Kim), Summerville; grandchildren, Leah Rowell and Ben Rowell (Breanna), sister-in-law, Mary Johnson, niece Connie Bray (Bill), nephew, Rodney Johnson and great-niece, Christi Bray.

A celebration of Mr. Rowell’s life will be held Friday 1 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with the Rev. Bert Brooks and Rev. Russell Headrick officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. Mr. Rowell will lie in state from noon Friday until time for the service.

The family will gather Thursday at Salmon Funeral Home where they will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m.; at other hours they may be contacted at their respective residences.

Active and honorary pallbearers will consist of the A.S.A. Georgia High School baseball and softball umpires.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.


Ms. Juanitha Carolyn Bowman, age 70, of Euharlee passed away Tuesday January 8, 2019 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday January 11, 2019, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with the Rev. Homer Wilburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5  until 7 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
