Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration: Four-day event planned Jan. 18-21 to celebrate his life and legacy on what would have been his 90th birthday

A four-day celebration is planned for Jan. 18-21 to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on what would have been his 90th birthday this year. This year’s events include:

  • Friday, Jan. 18: A birthday extravaganza with DJ D-Low at the Rome City Auditorium, 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 19: Family prayer breakfast at Lovejoy Baptist Church Life Center at 9 a.m. Keynote speaker will be Lisa J. Crawford from Chattanooga.
  • Sunday, Jan. 20: An Ecumenical Service at North Broad Church of God at 5 p.m. featuring Rev. Dr. Gerald Durley of Atlanta, along with the MLK Community Choir.
  • Monday, Jan. 21: The annual Freedom March at 11 a.m. on Broad Street to the Rome City Auditorium (meet at 10:30 a.m. on Second Avenue). Featured speaker will be William Evans Jr., the mayor of Sparta, along with the MLK Community Choir. Lunch will be immediately following at the Rome Civic Center on Jackson Hill.
