Jobs: Region’s jobless rate down to 3.3% in November; Bartow sees an all-time low.

Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate dropped in November. At the same time, most indicators remain positive for the year.

“As we move through this holiday season, it’s exciting to see our communities doing so well,” said state Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. “While monthly numbers fluctuate, we continue to see long-term trends going in the right direction.”

  • The unemployment rate for November, at 3.3 percent, was down 0.4 percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.2 percent. The November rate was tied for fourth among the 12 regions.
  • The labor force in Northwest Georgia went down by 2,779 in November to reach 420,570. That number is up by 3,059 over the past year, an average monthly increase of about 255.
  • Northwest Georgia lost 1,186 employed residents in November, pushing the total to 406,671. The number is up 6,777 for the year, or about 565 per month.
  • Claims for unemployment insurance were up by 61 percent in November. They were up by 72 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.
  • Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 1,805 active job postings in metro Northwest Georgia for November.
  • The Northwest Georgia region includes Bartow, Chattooga, Catoosa, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield.

In Bartow County: The unemployment rate for November tied the lowest ever recorded for the area.  Bartow’s employed residents and labor force both dipped in November. Meanwhile, critical indicators were positive for the year.    “As we move through this holiday season, it’s exciting to see our communities doing so well,” Butler said. “While monthly numbers fluctuate, we continue to see long-term trends going in the right direction.”

  • The unemployment rate for November, at 3.1 percent, was down 0.4 percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4 percent.
  • The labor force in Bartow County  dropped by 214 in November  to reach 50,512. That number is up by 434 over the past year, an average monthly gain of about 35.
  • Bartow County lost 20 employed residents in November , pushing the total to 48,929. The number is up 853 for the year, or about 70 per month.
  • Claims for unemployment insurance rose by 114 percent in November . They were up by 118 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.
  • Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 259 active job postings in metro Bartow County for November.
