Obituaries: Mrs. Mary Eleanor Atkoczaitis, Mr. William S. “Bill” Everitte, Jr., Mrs. Beatrice Ragland Kidd, Mrs. Beatriz Eugenia Lopez, Jackie Eugene Quinn and John Charles Van Horn

Mrs. Mary Eleanor Atkoczaitis, age 91, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Atkoczaitis was born in Abbeville, Georgia on October 23, 1927, daughter of the late Thomas Pete Taylor and the late Jennie Lee Cowan Taylor.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Atkoczaitis, and by siblings, Edna Taylor, Harry Taylor, Robert Taylor, Betty Taylor, Lonnie Taylor and Barbara Taylor Bobo.  She was of the Baptist faith.  Prior to retirement, Mrs. Atkoczaitis worked for a number of years at Celanese Fibers in Rome.

Survivors include a sister, Jean Shearer, Atlanta; a brother, Bill Taylor, Virginia; special nephew and niece, Tony & Kay Bobo, Rome; other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 12 noon at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.  The Rev. Frankie Madrie will officiate.

Mr. William S. “Bill” Everitte, Jr. age 64, of Silver Creek, GA, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018, at his residence.

Bill was born at Camp Gordon, GA, on April 12, 1954, a son of the late William S. Everitte, Sr., and Nettie Myrle Shipes Everitte.  Prior to retirement in 2004, he was associated with Georgia Power Company where he was an Instrument Technician.  Bill loved working with computers and spending time with his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on July 14, 2004, by his wife, Deborah Joan Giles Everitte, whom he married July 6, 1996.

Bill is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William S Everitte, III, and his wife Jennifer, of Saraland, AL, and Richard “Rick” Everitte and his wife, Tricia, of Rockmart, GA; two grandchildren, Xander and Elijah Everitte; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Bobbie Jean and Maxie Cooper of Silver Creek, Debbie and Rick Mitchell of Buchanan, GA, Pam Gray of Buchanan, and Glenda and Rick Goodman of Silva, NC.  Several nieces, nephews and other family and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Bill will be held on Wednesday afternoon, January 2, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Shedd officiating.  Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Mrs. Beatrice Ragland Kidd, age 80, of Rome, Ga. transitioned December 29, 2018. Funeral service for Mrs. Kidd will be Saturday, January 5, 2019 at New Life of St. John Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Cemetery. Please keep the family lifted up in prayer.

Mrs. Beatriz Eugenia Lopez, age 83, of Rome, passed away Saturday morning, December 29, 2018, at a local assisted living facility.

A biblical wake and memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  Deacon Stuart Neslin will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 10 until 11:45am.

Jackie Eugene Quinn, age 75, of Rome passed away Saturday December 29, 2018 in a local hospital.

Jackie was born December 23, 1943, in Floyd County, a son of the late Oda Quinn, and Mary Frances Brock Quinn. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist. He was preceded in death his brothers, Jimmy Lamar and Johnny Charles Quinn.

Survivor include his wife, Betty Waits Quinn, step son, Bobby Waits, grandsons, Buck Jeter, and Ethan Waits, brother, J.B. (Jan) Quinn, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday January 2, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until the service hour on Wednesday, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

John Charles Van Horn, born October 4, 1946, went home to be with the LORD on December 29, 2018. John was born in Floyd County, Georgia to Doyle and Mary Louise Van Horn. He attended O’Keefe High School in Atlanta and graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA in Accounting. He served in the US Army and very much loved his country. He retired from the Georgia Building Authority where he worked as the Director of Accounting. He was married to the love of his life, Ginger Gresham, on December 24, 1994 and just celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary. John is survived by one daughter, Heather Matthews (Matt) of Mansfield; and two stepchildren, Heather Wallace and Haden Wallace (Emily) of Rome. He leaves behind eight grandchildren; Kenyan Wallace of Rome, Alyssa Rodriguez of Rome, Darian Reid of Mansfield, Alex Rodriguez of Rome, Emaleigh Lease of Mansfield, Jackson Lease of Mansfield, Jonathan Lease of Mansfield and Harper Wallace of Rome. John has four brothers; David Van Horn (Ann) of Cumming, Randy Van Horn of Rome, Jeff Van Horn (Glenda) of Rome and Gregory “Pete” Van Horn (Mildred) of Yorkville, 3 nephews. John’s most prized possessions were his grandchildren whom he enjoyed going fishing with and attending Rome Braves baseball games with. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Rome from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Services will begin immediately following the viewing. Pastors Eddie LaFountain and Joey Haynes will officiate. Cemetery Services will be conducted at East View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would request that donations be made in Memory of John Van Horn to the American Diabetes Association: www.diabetes.org or billygraham.org.
Pallbearers include the following gentlemen, Shane Van Horn, Tony Van Horn, Dr. Andy Van Horn, Frank Konik, Haden Wallace, Kenyan Wallace, Danian Reid, and Alex Rodriguez.
