Busy welcome for Del Taco in Calhoun as this photo from Hometown’s Natalie Simms shows on Saturday afternoon.

Del Taco opens at 250 E. Ga. 53 in Calhoun.  The Ga. 53 strip has seen its share of new fast-food options in Calhoun and it seems the newest player — Del Taco’s return to Northwest Georgia — is getting a good reception. The restaurant is on the northside of the highway as you head toward I-75 and the outlets. The hours: 10 a.m.-1 a.m. seven days a week. Operating partner Billy Jensen, in an earlier interview with Hometown Headlines, said the ownership group is “very excited” about the new location. As for additional growth here? “We have some sites that we like in Rome, Ga., but have not made any commitments yet. Rome is certainly on our radar but we don’t have a definite timeline at this point.”

Next up: ‘New’ Burger King at 2207 Shorter Ave. opens at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Burger King franchise is moving from 2114 Shorter Ave. — almost across the highway — into the former Popeye’s location on Shorter Avenue. Popeye’s is returning to the former United Community Bank site in 2019.

Coming soon in 2019: Sunflour Bakery. Look for the shop at Fifth Avenue and Avenue A. Sunny Shropshire Knauss has made a name for her breads and treats, selling at Swift & Finch, Over the Moon (Central Plaza) and Yellow Door Antiques. Details soon on the new shop.
