It was a rematch of last year’s 2017 Class 5A state championship, but this time, it didn’t end in Rome’s favor. Calhoun’s championship run also came to end after the Yellow Jackets lost 22-7 to Peach County, the same team they faced last year in the Class 3A state championship. Cartersville prevailed 17-14 over Marist to advance to the Class 4A state championship on Dec. 12 against Blessed Trinity. It is the third time in 4 years that Cartersville has reached the state championships. Rockmart topped Callaway, 28-20, to advance to the Class 2A state championship on Dec. 12 against Heard Co.  Polk School District will cancel classes on Dec. 12 because of the 1 p.m. game time.
