Look for the former Popeye’s location on Shorter Avenue to be selling whoppers and other Burger King favorites before Feb. 1 of next year. That’s when Burger King will move out of its current site at 2114 Shorter Ave., according to a commercial real estate listing.
We asked the public relations firm representing GPS Hospitality, the franchisee here for Burger King and Popeye’s, for a comment. Their response: “The landlord has listed the property, as our term is coming to a close. We plan to maintain a presence in the immediate area.”
The Popeye’s location has been closed since an arsonous fire; plans for a makeover as a Burger King were filed with the building department more than a year ago. As for the current Burger King: The site is listed for sale at $635,000 on LoopNet. Built in 1990, it features nearly seven-tenths of an acre with 2,860 square feet under roof. Craig McDaniel of Toles, Temple and Wright has the listing.
From our Nov. 8, 2017, posting:
GPS Hospitality is replacing its short-lived Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen at 2207 Shorter Ave. with one of its Burger King franchises (currently located on the other side of the four-lane at 2214 Shorter) in West Rome. Last summer, plans were filed with the city of Rome for a $325,000 renovation.
More on Popeye’s: We’ve seen a few reports of a new Popeye’s closer to downtown on Shorter Avenue. Meanwhile in Rockmart, Popeye’s is close to opening at the spot where Sonic once stood off U.S. 278.
