Buzz: Property taxes due today; Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne says $60 million already been collected. Two options for Master Gardener classes in 2019.

Property tax bills due this evening.  From the Floyd County Tax Commissioner’s Office: “Don’t forget that you can still mail your property tax bill. As long as it is postmarked by Nov. 15, it will not be considered late. Mail to P.O. Box 26 Rome, Ga.  30162.

Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne joined us at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday on the Hometown Headlines Radio Edition on WRGA 98.7 FM. Some highlights:

  • Tax bills worth $95 million were sent this year.
  • As of this week, nearly two-thirds — $60 million — already had been paid. The rush “was a bit early this year,” says Payne.
  • Drop-off boxes will be in use outside the courthouse through the 5 p.m. Thursday deadline.
  • Can’t pay the full amount? Payne says at least pay what you can now as you’ll be paying penalties only on the outstanding balance.
