Georgia governor’s race: Provisional votes inch Kemp, Abrams closer with deadline set for Friday. How to check your provisional ballot. Latest updates.

The latest: As counties continue to certify their votes, the distance between Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams tightens but the gap remains wide enough to prevent a Dec. 4 runoff between the two. A federal judge has extended the counties’ reporting deadline to Friday afternoon.


The latest vote totals:  As of Wednesday morning, the vote count  and percentages were as follows. All three candidates picked up votes and the percentages for the two front runners tightened slightly:

Brian Kemp: 50.23% or 1,978,170 votes

Stacey Abrams: 48.83% or 1,923,185 votes.

Ted Metz: 0.95% or 37,227 votes.

Secretary of State complies with federal order: On November 13, 2018, U.S District Court Judge Amy Totenberg issued the order directing the Secretary of State to take certain actions regarding certain provisional ballots cast in the November 6, 2018 general election. To comply with this ruling, Secretary of State Robyn A. Crittenden has taken the following actions:

  • Established and publicized a toll-free hotline – 1-844-537-5375 – and accompanying website for voters to check the status of the their provisional ballots cast in the November 6, 2018 election;
  • Directed all 159 county election superintendents to similarly publicize the availability of the state’s hotline and website on county and county election websites;
  • Directed counties with 100 or more provisional ballots to engage in a “good faith” review of voters’ eligibility for those who cast provisional ballots coded “PR” (not registered to vote) using all available registration documentation, including information provided by the voter through the time of the review; and
  • Produced information in her possession responsive to the Court’s Order and sought to obtain additional information from county election superintendents.

The Secretary of State’s toll-free hotline is 1-844-537-5375. This public access system is publicized on an accompanying website, and there is a banner on sos.ga.gov stating “Click Here to Check Your Provisional Ballot Status in the Nov. 6, 2018 Election.”

 

 

Need to check your provisional vote? Per a federal judge’s order, the Georgia Secretary of State’s office has established this website and a toll-free hotline- 1-844-537-5375- for voters who cast provisional ballots in the Nov. 6 to determine whether their ballots were counted and, if not, the reason why.  Voters can also use the contact information below to directly contact their county elections and registration office to check on the status of their provisional ballots The local numbers to know:

On Friday, elections officials in Floyd, Bartow, Gordon and Polk counties certified election results from Nov. 6, including provisional ballots. Those results have been uploaded to the Secretary of State. The latest results uploaded as of Friday evening:
