Accident on Ga. 140 kills Rome man, according to WRGA:
Ramon Gonzalez Morales, 37 of Rome was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Ga. 140 just west of Floyd Springs Road Sunday afternoon, Floyd County Police tell WRGA. The vehicle was traveling eastbound when the right side tires traveled off the road. The car began to rotate sideways, crossed the center line and struck a power pole on the westbound side of the road. Morales was partially ejected and died at the scene, according to the report. Traffic flowing again; power has been restored.
The above Google Traffic map shows a complicated situation on Ga. 140, mostly between Floyd Springs Road east toward Old Dalton Road. Stretches of the westbound and eastbound highway are stalled if not closed by an accident being reported by WRGA News.
The radio station’s report:
“According to 911 scanner traffic, the vehicle slammed into a power pole in front of 636 Turkey Mountain Road at around 1 p.m., snapping it almost in half. Georgia Power crews have been called to the scene. The driver of the vehicle was partially ejected, a witness told 911 operators.”
From Floyd 911:
“Hwy 140 (Turkey Mountain Rd) between Floyd Springs Rd & Turner Rd is shut down due to a vehicle accident.”
We checked with Georgia Power’s outage map and found the following: More than 500 without service in that area with restoration expected by 5 p.m.
