Obituaries: Mrs. Claire Haigler Gardner, Mr. Bobby Dewayne Marshall, Dep. Chief Lonzo Grover Roberson, Mrs. Lucille Williams Sharpe and Therian Hester Smith

Dep. Chief Lonzo Grover Roberson, age 68, of Buchanan, GA, Felton Community, passed away Friday afternoon, November 2, 2018, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens in Cedartown will full honors rendered by the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard and the Rome Police Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 11am until the service hour.

Mrs. Claire Haigler Gardner, age 93, of Rome, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at a local hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gardner will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at 2:00 pm, at Fellowship Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church from 12:00 – !:45 pm on Wednesday.

Mr. Bobby Dewayne Marshall, age 70, of Summerville, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018, at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Marshall was born in Chattooga County on August 22, 1948, son of the late Robert William Marshall and the late Cleo Floyd.  He was a retired truck driver, having been employed with R. W. T.  Trucking Company.  He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, having served during the Vietnam era.  He was a member of Tunnel Hill First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Rowlls Marshall; 2 daughters, Lori Raburn, Ringgold, and Leslie Helton (Tyler), Chickamauga; 2 sisters, Glenda Norton (Joe) and Jackie Weaver (Randy), both of Summerville; 3 grandchildren, Holli Raburn, Patrick and Benjamin Helton; nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Mr. Marshall’s wishes, he will be cremated and no formal services will be held.

Mrs. Lucille Williams Sharpe, age 83, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Sharpe was born in Floyd County, GA on August 23, 1935, daughter of the late James Bethel Long and the late Addie Dorsie Clark Long.  She was a homemaker and was a member of the Worldwide Church of God.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by 2 husbands, Joe Nathan Williams, Sr. and C. A. Sharpe.

Survivors include 3 sons, Joe Williams, Jr. (Ava Lynn), Rome, Jerry Williams (Darlene), Rome, and Danny Williams (Darla), Adairsville; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 3pm in East View Cemetery.  Pastor Ronnie Richardson will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 1:30pm until 2:30pm.  At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.

Obituary of Therian Hester Smith

Therian Hester Smith, age 76, of Rome, passed away November 2, 2018 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Mr. Smith was born in Forney, AL, on May 30, 1942, and was preceded in death by his mother, Sybol Hester Smith, brother, Edwin Smith, and two sisters, Janice Knowles and Rhonelda Pyles. Mr. Smith was a 1965 graduate of Shorter College. He retired after 30 years of teaching from Riverside School and then from Adairsville Middle School. Mr. Smith was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church for 47 years. Mr. Smith was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, Yogi Berra fan and fisherman. He was an accomplished wordsmith and was known for his “Uncle-isms.” He was a Bojangles afficionado and also a coffee connoisseur. Survivors include a brother Jerry Smith, Rome; a nephew-son, Dan Knowles and wife, Vicky, Cartersville; and nephews, Robert Smith, Rome, Ken Paul, Arkansas, Sean Paul and Derrick Paul, Carrollton, Lee Pyles, Florida, Eric Pyles, Tennessee, and Chris Smith, Cartersville; and niece, April Jones, Cartersville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Second Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Monty Stallins officiating.
