A week ago, a Rome High student — already facing weapons and drug charges from an August arrest — was jailed on charges of marijuana possession as well as three counts of carrying weapons within school safety zones and functions or on school property. Rome Police said a teacher smelled marijuana on Kaleb Logan Broadaway, 17, and then a search was conducted of his vehicle, producing the suspected drugs and weapons.

This week, two additional students have been arrested at the high school. Floyd County Jail records show:

Zechariah Travion Williamson, 17, was arrested Tuesday at 1000 Veterans Memorial Highway — Rome High’s address — on charges of affray (fighting) as well as disruption of a public school. He has since posted bond and be released from jail.

On Wednesday, Zyshonne Antonio Lamar Kelley, 17, was arrested Wednesday at the school on charges of marijuana possession (less than an ounce); possession/manufacture/distribute a controlled substance or marijuana within 1,000 feet of school; and purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana. No bond was set on the final two charges as he remained in jail Wednesday night. WRGA reports that Kelley reportedly was “in a dazed state with bloodshot eyes. A search of his backpack turned up five small plastic bags containing suspected marijuana packaged for sale.”

In the first arrest, we asked Rome City Schools spokeswoman Tashia Twyman for a comment. Her reply: “Rome City Schools cannot comment on a student’s educational records or discipline issues. Please direct any questions regarding this matter to the City of Rome Police.”
